2016 Education Outreach with San Diego Refugee Tutoring Ibarra Elementary School

On Monday evenings 5-6:30pm from January 25th to March 17th, Bonnie Lander will lead San Diego New Music’s Outreach Program in collaboration with the San Diego Refugee Tutoring program held at Ibarra Elementary School. During the program, refugee students in 3rd to 5th grade will build instruments, creating new music pieces for a showcase concert at the final meeting on March 17th. See below for the two ways you can help this exciting initiative!

VOLUNTEER!
You are invited to join us on a Monday evening during the session to help the students make the instruments and join in on the general revelry! Come one day or several. Contact Bonnie to schedule your visit!

DONATE MATERIALS:
Each week the instruments are made from materials that you might be planning to discard. We will be collecting cylindrical vessels such as coffee cans, oatmeal cans, small tin cans, any kind of cylinder really! Or consider donating a small bottle such that could be sealed to create a shaker. There are other miscellaneous items such as bottlecaps, cardboard boxes, shoeboxes, cigar boxes, paper towel tubes, milk jugs, buckets, rubber bands, popsicle sticks, straws that could become someone’s next instrument! Contact Bonnie Lander to volunteer or donate materials.
